I just saw a video that just warmed my heart. It was a mob scene at a mall where this one young lady started singing a Christmas song and just about everyone joined in and sang several songs. It was quite inspiring. It prompted to me to continue this rant that I put off for a few days…
As a young child, I always enjoyed the holidays. All the holidays are special, but Christmas at our house was even more. The night of Thanksgiving or the day after, my mother would put up our tree and just go to town! Her decorations were the best!! Although she was a single mom, she provided well for us and always had surprises for us. And the parties!! Fun! Fun! Fun!
As the years passed on and I became an adult, I took on the tradition that my mother instilled in me. I love decorating for Christmas! Now that I have my own little one, even more so. I love looking into her eyes when we light the tree – she squeels and says, “Woooow.” Just as she should – a child in wonderment. Heck, I still do the same thing – just the kid in me coming out. I love it!
Here’s the thing. I have friends and some family members who are my age or even older that don’t decorate any more. Their reason: The kids have grown and there is no reason to do it… What?! Whoa Whoa…Christmas is just not for kids – it’s for EVERYONE!!
I only missed decorating one year because my back was out and oh, how I missed seeing the bright lights and everything wonderful that went along with it. I think that people get too caught up in the commercialism of Christmas – that buying something and giving it to someone is the reason for the season. I mean have we forgotten what the true meaning of Christmas is all about? It is what we should show each other everyday – Peace, generosity, good will, and LOVE people!! I feel like a kid again during the holidays and I am 43 years old! I don’t care what age you are or that you have kids that are grown and out of the house. Reach deep inside – don’t you miss that feeling that the holidays bring? I am a very positive person and the holidays just increase my enthusiasm for the real spirit of humanity. This is a joyous time – a time full of hope. Remember your families – ask if help is needed and give it. Look to your communities and see about giving your time to a worthy cause. You don’t have to buy anything – give of yourself. It does go a long way.
So in the spirit of this glorious holiday – Merry Christmas and Bright Blessings!!
